Aftur’s Christmas Calendar: 8th of December

It was many and many a year ago,
   In a kingdom by the sea,
That a maiden there lived whom you may know
   By the name of Annabel Lee;
And this maiden she lived with no other thought
   Than to love and be loved by me.
Edgar Allan Poe
The very first time I read his poem; “Annabel Lee” I was mesmerized. Similarly to Knut Hamsun, he digs deep into the core of basic human emotion. He puts an innocent spark to a love between two people – which evidently makes it a much more pure and true-to-the-heart kind of poem. He’s without a doubt one of the many poets who managed to capture my heart and make wonders out of my then-really poor poetry-writing.
